When turning quickly to avoid an object, turn only as much as is necessary to clear it. Do not apply the brakes while turning.

When braking a vehicle equipped with an Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), you should not brake any differently than you would if driving a vehicle with a different braking system.

When inspecting your vehicle's engine compartment, be sure to check the oil level; the radiator coolant level and the condition of the hoses; the power steering fluid level and the condition of the hoses, if applicable; the windshield washer fluid level; the battery connections, fluid level, and tie-downs; the automatic transmission fluid level; and the condition and tightness of the belts. Additionally, check for any leaks in the engine compartment and cracked or worn electrical wiring insulation.

You can build up a "debt" of sleep if you do not sleep for adequate amounts of time. You can only catch up on the time that you "owe" by getting more sleep.

Posted speed limits on exit and entrance ramps often show speeds that are safe to be driven by cars. However, these speed limits may be too fast for large or heavily-loaded vehicles and CMV drivers will likely need to slow down to a speed below the posted limit.

When inspecting a vehicle with a dual air brake system, you should wait for air pressure to build from 85 to 100 psi in both the primary and secondary systems. This should take about 45 seconds.

A steering wheel should be held firmly with both hands, placed on opposite sides of the wheel.

Roads are particularly slippery when it first begins to rain. The water mixes with oil drippings on the road that have not yet washed away, creating a slippery and dangerous mixture.

Drivers who are holding conversations with others may not be paying full attention to the road and may make unsafe moves. Children do not always pay attention to traffic and may dart into the road without looking. Exercise caution when driving near road workers. This helps to keep the workers and other distracted drivers safe.

The liver removes alcohol from the body at a fixed rate that cannot be increased through tricks like drinking coffee or taking a cold shower. The only way to sober up after drinking is to wait for the alcohol to be removed from your system.
