When inspecting a vehicle, you should verify that your dual tires do not come into contact with one another, or with any other part of the vehicle.

Release dolly brakes by opening the air tank petcock. If the dolly has spring brakes, use the dolly parking brake control.

Your vehicle's engine may need to be running in order for you to check the level of its automatic transmission fluid.

You should accelerate very gradually when driving under conditions that create poor traction.

You should always slow to a safe speed before entering a curve. Slowing while within the curve could cause a skid.

A hot, poorly-ventilated area can make a person sleepy. Opening a window, opening a vent, or using the air conditioning can help keep the cab cool and reduce the risk of fatigue.

Compressed air in an air brake system usually contains a certain amount of water and compressor oil. The water and oil can damage the brakes if left to accumulate in the system. Tanks must be drained regularly to remove this build-up.

Posted speed limits on exit and entrance ramps often show speeds that are safe to be driven by cars. However, these speed limits may be too fast for large or heavily-loaded vehicles and CMV drivers will likely need to slow down to a speed below the posted limit.
